43.10 Notes on the Basic Sentences

(1) A liter is just over one quart. Most of Latin America uses the metric system.

(2) The indirect clitic le on póngale anticipates el radiador (the radiator).

(3) Cuadra literally means ‘one side of a city block’ and is used in giving directions. Manzana refers to the full block.

(4) Dirección means ‘address,’ though in some contexts it can mean ‘the way to get there.‘

43.21 Comparison of Inequality

In comparisons, ‘than’ is translated de when different specific amounts of the same thing are compared. When different things are compared, ‘than’ is translated que.

Irregular comparatives: bueno → mejor; malo → peor; grande → mayor; pequeño → menor

43.21.2 Position of no in Expressing Contradictions and Reservations

To repeat and contradict something, no is placed after it. To provisionally accept with reservations, no is placed before the reserved condition.
