Grammar Notes
Present Habitual Tense (kori, koro, koren)
The present habitual describes routine or general actions. Kori (I do), koro (you informal do), koren (you/they formal do). Jai (I go), jao (you go), jaan (they go). Khaai (I eat), khaan (they eat). Otha (I get up)—some verbs have irregular forms. The habitual often omits explicit “always” or “usually.”
Daily Activity Verbs (otha, ghumaano, khaowa, jaowa)
Otha (to get up): Aami shokale otha (I get up in the morning). Ghumaano (to sleep): Aami rate ghumaai (I sleep at night). Khaowa (to eat): Aami khaowa kori or Aami khai (I eat). Jaowa (to go): Aami ofis-e jai (I go to the office). Hajama kora (to brush teeth), snaan kora (to bathe).
Time Adverbs (shokale, dupure, rate)
Shokale (in the morning), dupure (in the afternoon), rate (at night). Shokal-e and shokale both occur. Dupur-e, dupure. Bikal-e (in the evening). These typically precede or follow the verb. Aami shokale otha (I get up in the morning).
Sentence Connectors (aar, tarpor, sheshe)
Aar (and), tarpor (then), sheshe (finally, at last). Aami otha, aar tarpor hajama kori (I get up, and then I brush my teeth). Aami kaj kori, tarpor bari fire aashi (I work, then I return home). Sheshe marks the final step: Aami sheshe ghumaai (Finally I sleep).
